Apple knows all about trademarks after its iPhone debacle with Cisco, but the Zune trademark issued to Microsoft this week reveals some interesting potential plans.On Tuesday the patent application for the Zune name (filed in August) was finally granted by the US authorities. Among the hundreds of uses for the brand name listed on the application was the obvious 'multimedia player and entertainment device' but also the not so apparent 'cellular telephone services'.Could this mean that Bill Gates is prepping a Zune phone? Or is it just a cunning ploy to stop anyone else bringing out a namesake mobile?Some insiders have been predicting a Microsoft contender to the iPhone since last year – others are pointing out some of the other uses listed on the application, including: 'doll clothing; board games; card games; play cosmetics for children' and most oddly 'squeezable balls used to relieve stress'.
