The major gadget choice this winter won't be about netbooks or killer compact snappers. Oh no, tech fiends, it's all about Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.Thankfully, which ever one you choose to rock out to, all the instruments will be cross compatible, after Sony and Microsoft weighed in with their tuppence worth on the matter, according to Joystiq. It's pretty rare that the two big boys of the console world agree, but both players have said they will require all guitars, mikes and drums to work whether you're getting down with Guitar Hero or rolling with Rock Band.I for one think it's great news. No spending obscene amounts on plastic controllers that become utterly useless. Well, almost, because both games will still cost a fortune. Still, better than nowt, eh?

Look out for our Guitar Hero: World Tour vidcast later this week. And remember you can play it if you come along to Stuff Live later this year. Book tickets now!
