Here's your chance to prove to your friends that you were right to take the plunge and buy a Media Center PC.

Later today Microsoft's firing out a Media Center update - Rollup 2 - that'll help your machine talk to December's Xbox 360 so you can play your PC's music, vids and snaps on the console's telly.

The coolest bit is that the video side of things supports high definition. That means the Media Center/360 combo - last minute surprises from Sky and cable aside - will be the first mainstream way to watch high-def material in the UK.

Other new features include support for DVD changers and a genuine one second 'instant-on' mode. Finally, your DVD player-shaped box will be able to start up with the speed of a DVD player. We hope.

You'll be able to grab the update before the day's out via Microsoft's Windows Update site.
