In the future there will be robots – or so we were assured. And it seems by the small army of bots invading CES this week that they were right. The latest to take on Lego's Mindstorms is this caterpillar-tracked monster from nostalgic boyhood brand Meccano.Dubbed Spyke, the self-build automaton gets Wi-Fi, a monocled web cam of a head and the ability to wheel its little tank tracks back to charging base whenever it needs a snooze. And yes, thanks to some clever mechanics Spyke can climb stairs. It can even stand sentry and use its motion detectors to email you photos of intruders. So at least you'll know who nicked it before you get home.
