Bamboozled by the choice of bikes available?
Steel, aluminium, titanium, carbon... there are many choices when it comes to selecting the frame material of a new bike. That choice isn't going to get any easier as industrial designer Flavio Deslandes has released a range of bikes made from bamboo. Yes, you heard that right.
The bamboo is hand picked in Brazil and then dried and surface treated to make it more durable, though I'm still not sure how safe I'd feel on a bike made of cane.Flavio says: "Bamboo is nature's own organic tube structure. I have always believed that this fine material has a great potential. Biking is a very energy effective way of transportation. And combining a sustainable material as bamboo with energy free mobility feels quite right." If you want to get hold of one, it'll cost you upwards of 3800 Euros. Probably worth investing in a bamboo lock as well, then. You can order yours at www.flaviodeslandes.com
