Here's one we thought we'd never see - PalmOne is going to launch a Windows Mobile 5.0-powered handheld 'early next year' in the US.
According to PalmOne's big boss man, Ed Colligan, punters have been screaming out for a Windows Treo and business types are gagging for the Exchange email and Outlook side of the phone.
He's also keen to stress that this new Windows Mobile deal 'isn't about things going away' and that the Palm operating system will 'continue to be successful'.
The new phone software seems cool - there's a neat feature where you can speed-dial from address book photographs.
The phone itself looks very very similar to the Treo 650, complete with a QWERTY keyboard for emailing.
PalmOne won't be announcing any further specs today - the Win Treo doesn't have a name yet either - but they have just confirmed the handheld has an Intel processor.
This model uses a US-only CDMA radio, so we're expecting details of a European version early in October. Watch this space.
