In Apple's 'year of announcements' two widely-tipped debuts have remained elusive: the Software Development Kit (SDK) for the iPhone and iPod Touch to open them up to third party apps, and the arrival of a new MacBook Pro.

Both are expected soon. And now Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda has told fans on his mikeshinoda.com blog to "look forward to a special show that we're doing in NYC in conjunction with Apple... Shh... It's a secret..."

Not any more, Mike.

A quick perusal of Linkin Park's tour schedule shows that the band's only free dates this month are today, the 24th, 27th and 28th. Put it together with earlier rumours and we'd say that an Apple event is imminent.

The new SDK and the Pro look like shoo-ins. But what about a 3G iPhone? We can dream.
