Peacemakers can come in the unlikeliest form. For example, LG – best known for its washing machines, fridges et al – is bringing together the fighting HD DVD and Blu-ray in one player to make Blu-DVD. Sort of.OK, so there won’t be any merging of the two to make one hybrid HD disc, but the double spinner – to be unveiled at CES next week – will be the first in the world to support both of the new high-definition storage media, potentially signalling an end to the format fisticuffs. Those warmongerers who exclusively support one or other of the formats certainly won’t be happy with LG if the duo player spoils the fight. After all, Don King never made any money out of boxers getting along and having a nice chat, did he?
