Keen to get people on board with its Kindle e-reader, Amazon has announced the beta release of its free Kindle for PC application.

Amazon first said it would be releasing the free app last month, and you can now get your mitts on it, allowing you to read Kindle ebooks on your computer whether you have a Kindle or not.

You’ll be able to download books from the Kindle Store, and if you are a Kindle owner, you can sync it with your PC account so you can store bookmarks between the two and see annotations made on the Kindle, on your PC.

You can download the app now, but Mac users will have to wait for now. It’s listed as “coming soon”, although when that will be is not quite clear.

We’ll of course keep you updated, but until then be sure to check out our hands on pictures with the Kindle International Edition, and keep your eyes peeled for a hands on video soon.
