Hot pant wearing, Dukes of Hazzard star Jessica Simpson has made Yahoo history by releasing the first non-DRM protected MP3 called ‘A Public Affair’.
You’re not only free to do what you want with the track but also, in a quirky twist, choose a name before downloading to be inserted into the lyrics of the song. Unfortunately, the list of names is pre-selected, so any juvenile japery involving rude words is impossible.
While Jessica Simpson would probably have been our last choice of artist to experiment with unprotected music content, it shows willingness on the part of Yahoo to create a more open digital music market. Whether the record label fat cats will be as open to the suggestion is, sadly, another question entirely.
