As far as sources of breaking tech news go, the economy minister for Luxembourg isn't on Stuff's speed-dial. But it's from this unlikely source that we've caught wind of Apple's plans for video downloads in Europe.Jeannot Krecke gave away Apple's plans yesterday when he told the AFP that "Apple is going to extend its electronic retail activities in Luxembourg by launching this coming spring its iTunes video platform for the sale of videos in Europe." And he should know, since Apple's European download operations are based in Luxembourg. While US iTuners can already download full films and TV series like Lost (pictured), we're left with mere home movies and video clips, which makes Apple TV a bit, er, pointless if you live in good ol’ blighty. Now, though, it looks like the embarrassing imbalance is to be redressed with TV and film downloads heading to iTunes Stores across Europe. We'll have our silver telly box primed and ready.
