It seems third-party multitasking could well be coming to iPhone OS 4.0 as rumoured, with those close to the plans saying it'll work similarly to an existing feature on Mac OS X.
Expose sees Mac users able to view all the programs they have running in a zoomed out, tiled view, clicking the one they want to switch to to open it out into a full screen view.
Apparently iPhone 4.0 will see a similar interface, where hitting the home button twice will bring up all icons of all apps that are currently running.
We can't help but think that this is something that would seriously help the iPad's cause, as well as the iPhone. Will we see an update for the iPad too?
Other features spotted on the pre-release builds of iPhone 4.0 include a global mailbox view, which we'd assume would be similar to Motoblur and the like, and the ability to shortcut favourite contacts to your homescreen.
The iPhone OS 4.0, as well as a new iPhone, is expected to be unveiled sometime this summer – most likely June. Expect a whole lot more rumours to leak out before then.
