Firmware 2.2 does all the usual bug fixing that us mere mortals get a little tired of, but does add some killer new functionality that's sure to make Apple's cell even more enticing in the run up to Christmas.

You can now download podcasts over–the–air using both Wi–Fi and 3G, meaning you can get your weekly podcast and vidcast hit without having to shackle your phone to your computer first. Hurrah!

On top of that, Google Street View is now up and running too, making it easier to get from A to B with the aid of proper snaps to go with your regular maps. We'll put all the Big Brother fears to one side for now because we're gagging to give it a go.

Sadly, there's no MMS update yet, so it looks like we'll just have to download Mobispine's effort instead.
