iPhone 5 or “The new iPhone?”
Packaging leak seems to contradict Apple's own invite with "the new iPhone" branding
Apple’s sent out invites to a September 12th event, with a whopping great “5” on it – which seems to be a pretty clear indication that the iPhone 5 is coming. But Apple’s latest smartphone might just go by the moniker “The new iPhone,” if a leak from iPhonenieuwsblog.nl is to be believed.
They’ve snaffled snaps of a printing press that appears to show the new iPhone’s packaging – and it’s billed as “The new iPhone,” with nary a “5” in sight.
The purported box art also displays a logo for iOS 6, and what appears to be our first look at the iPhone 5’s screen showing the latest iteration of Apple’s new operating system.
A name change wouldn’t be out of the question for the iPhone 5 – simply calling it the iPhone would mirror the new naming convention for the iPad, which has ditched the numbers altogether.
One way or another, we’ll find out on September 12th – keep your eyes glued to our iPhone 5 rumour round-up for the latest news.
