With the Wii making it’s appearance this week, Rainbow Six Vegas to play online (with my own camera-captured face on my character), and my brand new MacBook arriving which is so very white and pure and shiny and perfect, you’d think I’d be revelling in high tech, hardcore gaming heaven but noooo not me. I was reading a Penny Arcade cartoon that yet again highlighted the difference in gaming tastes and attitudes between PA’s two protagonists Gabe and Tycho when I found myself utterly captivated by the idea of Tycho’s new favourite game Bookworm Adventures Deluxe.
It’s a spell ‘em up. And I ain’t talking about magic spells, I’m talking about actual spelling. I immediately downloaded the game and found to my strange pleasure that it’s a sort of Scrabble / Countdown RPG. I’ve been obsessed with it ever since I started playing it. I can’t leave the thing alone. I’m like some kind of spelling maniac. So obsessed am I that I spent much of my Fathers birthday explaining it to him and my Mother - both of whom, to my horror, were really interested in it. You know that you are NOT cool when your Dad wants to play the same games as you. Bookworm Adventures is absolutely superb. If you don’t like your foes gurgling their last breathe as they drown in their own blood when you defeat them or you just want a bit of a break from the whistles and bells of the latest in everything why not have some nice quiet spelling time.
