Meet the phone that could wrench Windows Mobile from its charity shop fashion status and in to the realm of Jermyn Street high design.
Photos and specs of the HTC Muse were leaked online at the end of last year – more of those in a sec - but Dutch phone site NewMobile has now added substance to the story by suggesting i-Mate will be flogging a version this summer. We’re waiting to hear official confirmation from HTC and, despite our messenger pigeons, have been unable to contact i-Mate.
So, what’s the fuss about the phone? For one, it’s the first Windows Mobile we’ve seen with the dash and style of a Moto RAZR. The Streetfighter II Ryu uppercut here, however, is a corking spec list.
Connectivity is mighty comprehensive, including 1Mbps+ 3G - HSDPA if you want to get geeky - Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a TV-Out socket. The Muse could also make for a credible Sony Eric Walkman W950i and Nokia N91 rival, since it packs in 4GB of storage for MP3s and WMAs, plus an FM tuner and built-in stereo speaker.
Rounding things out nicely is Win Mob 5.0 – natch – a VGA and 2.1MP cam for video-calling and snaps, plus a reasonable 240 x 240 screen. All these specs, of course, could be entirely made up as they’re not yet official, but we reckon they’re reliable: they come from Expansys’s Dutch site. And, as regular Stuffers will know, we trust the folk at Expansys.
We’ll update this story with info on pricing and availability the millisecond it flashes up on our screens. Or in our dreams, like that poet chap Coleridge.
