The camera never lies, even when it’s been slipped a few tenners – believe us, we’ve tried. This new 8.2MP compact from HP, though, is quite happy to stretch the truth thanks to its virtual slimming function.

The R927 has been loaded with HP’s new Design Gallery, which lets you edit your snaps without fiddling about on your PC. Along with the tummy tuck feature, you can also get to crop shots and add borders on the spot.

Aside from being a pie-gannet’s best friend, the slim compact should be capable of taking some more than decent snaps. Framing your huge 8.2MP shots should be a joy on the 3in LCD screen - which only Nikon’s new S6 rivals for size – and you can capture VGA video at 24fps too.

Keen zoomers might not to overjoyed by the 3x optical on offer, although the battery will go for an average of 165 shots. An SD card – now available up to 2GB in capacity – will be a necessity too thanks to the 32MB internal memory, enough for about 10 shots.

The R927 will be retailing for £250, but you’ll have to carry on with the gym work for the time being; it’s not out in the UK until April. For more information, take a web stroll over to HP’s official site.
