The Nintendo Wii had a nice surprise this morning – standing on its front doorstep were Harry Potter, John Madden, Tiger Woods, Marlon Brando, a team of SSX snowboarders and a fleet of Need for Speed cars, who all announced that they’d be starring in EA games for the console over the next year.
Electronic Arts says that all six franchises, which have been among its most successful in recent years, will be ‘custom-designed’ for the Wii’s motion-sensitive controller.
We’re not sure how this will add to The Godfather’s playability – perhaps you’ll smoke the controller like a Don Corleone cigar – but the sport-themed Madden NFL, Tiger Woods PGA Tour and SSX should all get taken onto a new level.
The Wii’s existing Sport games – golf, baseball and tennis – are a great tutorial for the controller but, from our brief play, seem to be lacking in depth. The more complex and realistic sims from EA’s stable, though, should create an immersive experience that even the Xbox 360 and PS3’s polygons will struggle to provide.
EA is keeping schtum on release dates for the games, but we’re expecting at least two to be launch titles come November. The software giant won’t be stopping with these either – apparently, more titles will be announced in the coming months. We’re all hands, EA.
