During the Apple announcement a few months back Apple made it clear it wanted to continue to take on handheld gaming consoles such as the PSPgo and DSi. So we were given a sneak peek at what gaming shaped goodies we could look forward to on the iPhone and iPod Touch from big gaming brands such as EA. We're not going to lie - we were pretty darn excited. That excitement was rekindled this week when we took Need For Speed: Shift for a spin. Need For Speed has already been acquainted with the iPhone and Touch with Need For Speed: Undercover, and hoping to follow in its footsteps is the second iteration of the uber popular (and addictive) racing game. Building on the success of its predecessor Shift offers better graphics, better control and multiplayer mode using either WiFi (up to four playes) and Bluetooth (two players) and the result is highly impressive. But let's get to the important stuff - the game play. Take your pick from one of 20 licensed cars, customise them to your liking - be it alloys, spoilers, paint work et al - and take to one of around 28 street and pro racing events, unlocking races along the way. It auto accelerates and you tap the screen to put on the brakes. We quite like the effects that hit the screen each time you crash or ram an opponent too. A crack will appear and will continue to get progressively worse until it blows out completely.
But don't just take our word on its awesomeness, check it out yourself in our quick hands-on video.
