Following on from the EOS 500, the 550D picks up 1080p HD video capabilities at 30fps, alongside impressive stills specs such as Canon's DIGIC-4 image processor for sensitivity up to ISO 6400, continuous shooting of up to 3.7fps and a 9-point auto-focus system.
On the back you'll find a 3-inch screen, plus bigger, redesigned buttons for more intuitive functionality. There's also an extra button on the battery grip which allows you to switch up the aperture settings when you have the camera in a vertical position, without a need to bring it into a horizontal position.
As for nice little additions, there is a 3.5mm stereo mic socket for getting better sound than the internal mic, and of course there is an HDMI output for checking out your HD snaps and videos on your HDTV.
We're looking forward to getting one into the office for a full Stuff once over, but in the meantime check out our first hands on snaps, and the official Canon video for more details below.
Of course, we want to hear what you think – love it or leave it? We're still waiting on pricing, but let us know what you reckon below.
