We first promised you'd be able to shred like Hetfield all the way back in June. Now finally, we can confirm through the band's website that Guitar Hero: Metallica edition will be hitting the shelves in 2009.

As well as being able to chug through 28 songs by the band, the game will feature tracks from Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Machine Head and, er, Queen amongst others.

For those of you who dream of ridiculously high-tuned snare drums, you can get even closer to being Lars Ulrich. The game will ship with two bass kick pedals and will feature an extra Expert + level for some double kick action.

The band were filmed in sensor-filled skintight suits with motion tracking cameras to create the onscreen graphics giving you 'a lot of Metallica experience' according to guitarist, Kirk Hammett in a USA Today interview. The game also finds you playing in many venues graced by Metallica during their career, including London's own Hammersmith Apollo.

Full tracklisting and release details as soon as we get 'em folks.
