What serendipitous coincidence. Not only does RIM’s newly announced Blackberry 8800 come with GPS but ALK swings by on the same day with a Blackberry edition of its new mobile-friendly CoPilot Live 7 sat–nav software. We cry: 'shenanigans!' We should have noticed when they started arriving at the office a few minutes apart each morning – that’s always a sign.So what has this RIM CoPilot love-in produced? Well a neatly integrated, Pearl-inspired sat-nav unit that's rather good at emailing by the looks of things. There’s also expandable memory via the microSD slot and a media player that gets cosy with iPod-friendly AAC audio and MP4 video on the 320x240 colour screen.Making the most of your new found GPS functionality is a doddle with CoPilot Live software. It does all its usual tricks of downloading fresh map and POI data whenever it needs to and also feeds its location back to base for remote tracking over the interweb. Plus it’ll now delve into your Blackberry address book and find contacts' addresses to navigate to.But don't worry if the Blackberry fairy hasn’t blessed you. Live 7 will also run on Windows smartphones and PDAs – including the new Windows Mobile 6.0.Dig your nose deep in the truffles of mobile phone news via our Live Stuff blog, for all the latest up-to-the-minute info from 3GSM in sunny Barcelona.
