[intro] Well, the iPhone's arrived – but what will happen to all the great web mock-ups we've seen this year? [/intro]
Well, it's finally here. Tom Dunmore's managed to wipe himself down and control his breathing, and the rest of the Stuff team are in a state of excitement, but I'm feeling that strange sense of melancholy you get after a hotly anticipated event reaches its climax.
There's no denying that the iPhone's release marks a defining moment in gadget history, and that I think it's truly awesome, but one of my favourite parts of this saga was the speculation. From Cisco's red herring Skype model to daily "will-they, won't they" news posts, the iPhone has generated about half of the net's empty rhetoric this year (and that's a LOT).
And what about the amazing mock-ups? Apple fan Okan Vardarova has collected his favourites together in his blog, and there are some total peaches – including one which looks suspiciously like the finished article.
But so long as Apple remain tight-lipped about their releases and fans remain as creative and as ardent about their chosen brand, we can be sure of more Apple mock-ups for Macworld 2008. Apple iHome anyone?
