[intro]Will you see a better PS2 game than this? Stuff says: no.[/intro]I just nipped down to the Stuff lab to have a crack at God of War II on PS2. It's brilliant. Now I'm playing new next-gen games on a daily basis, it takes something pretty special to make me say "Wow!" or "Cor!" out loud, but this just has. Fortunately there wasn't anyone else in the room at the time – or does that make it worse?

Anyway, for the benefit of those who didn't experience the first game, God of War II is an epic action adventure. I'm a writer, so should be able to find lots of other ways to describe it, but it's tempting just to say epic a few more times. Epic. Epic. Epic. There.

Gameplay is heavily scripted, a bit like a 2D scrolling platform game but in 3D, with brutal brawls around every corner and regular encounters with enormous foes, somewhat reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus. Stick it in progressive scan on a decent TV and you could easily convince people it was a PS3 or 360 game. So don't flog your PS2 just yet. The game's out in April. Get it.

Horganator out.
