Yahoo is liberating us from the shackles of the browser and leading us into the light. Yahoo Go Mobile will make it possible to use email, instant messenger, photo and other services on mobiles without a browser.
Rather than the bunch of links and a visual mess, Yahoo Go will streamline all your content into categories which are easy to scroll through on your phone. So it’ll be a lot better looking and easier to navigate.
All you need is your Yahoo ID and you’ll get the whole internet connected up to your device – cellular or Wi-Fi – for free once you’ve paid your usual data charges.
It’s not exactly for the masses though. Right now only those with Nokia’s Series 60 mobile phones – such as the N80, pictured – will have the pleasure of hooking-up. So even though it’s a free download, you’re still looking at pretty high-end mobiles for which you’ll have to shell out a few pennies to enjoy.
New Series 60 Nokias will be preloaded with Go Mobile. But don’t panic just yet – it will eventually be brought to other phones, with support for Motorola already in the pipeline.
Yahoo ain’t stopping at mobiles, either. Yahoo Go TV will make entertainment available on any TV with a PC plugged in – like a Viiv media one – through a downloadable application.
From your couch you’ll be able to do local and video search, get content from CNN and MTV, view movie trailers, information and movie times, watch TV shows and check out the weather, sports scores, stock data and news from My Yahoo.
Yahoo also says we’ll soon be able to program the recording of TV shows from their phones and get music services through TV.
There are no details of when you’ll be downloading Go Mobile and Go TV yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
