We got the message some time ago that leaving all our energy sapping gadgetry on standby isn't helping the planet with that global warming thing. Trouble is, not all our gear enjoys being turned off. Take Sky+, power down and it won't be able to wake itself up to record Planet Earth. The solution? Buy a PVR that doesn't drain as much 'leccy, such as this 160GB number from Tesco. It sips just 3W while idly waiting to record, just a little more than the average DVD player. Compare to your usual 12W glugging Freeview box and you can see the environmental difference. As well as packing it with twin Freeview tuners for watching and recording at the same time (though not dual recording), the box has also been made from tree hugging materials and components to minimise environmental impact. Not convinced? Ok, how about the fact that it could save a fiver on your electricity bill every year? Ah, there we go.
