Much as we'd like one of Getec's 95% humidity-resistant, magnesium alloy laptops, plonking down a machine which looks like its last job was aiming Hellfire missiles from the back of a Humvee tends to scare off clients.
So salute instead the 8212, Getac's first stab at a 'mere' durable notebook. Diverting from its usual tank-busting, nail-hammering look, it weighs in at just 1.2kg and fits into a standard laptop bag.
Don't think it's forgotten its roots, though. The 8212 is still spill-, drop- and shock-resistant, and sports a fingerprint reader for added security. And unlike most puny lappies, it has a battery that can stand the course.
Getac will be showing it off with the rest of the new recruits at CeBit in Hannover next month. Keep your eyes glued to Stuff News for the latest from the show as it happens.
