Keen to up your photography game and ditch that shonky compact? Well, Canon’s got something for you. They’ve just launched their latest EOS monster, the 1000D. It’s an entry level DSLR, but comes with enough features to keep even diehard David Bailey wannabes happy.

You can snap up to three frames per second, as well as a wide area focus system for capturing killer action shots. Round the back you’ll find a 2.5in LCD screen, with Live View, so you can indulge in a spot of point and shoot rather than properly framing your pics if it takes your fancy.

Inside you’ll find a 10MP sensor, which should be more than enough when you’re trying to look like a pro to impress your mates. You get the body only for £499, but can add an 18–55mm IS lens kit and shell out £579 instead. We’d say it’s best to plump for the latter. And grab a flash while you’re at it.
