Need a pet project for the weekend? Here’s an idea: dust off your Doc Brown inventors coat and design a flying machine for the Red Bull Flugstag, which will be splashing into the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park on 7th June.The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday 14th March, so there’s plenty of time to perfect your flying sheep concept plane. To get cracking just download the design manual from www.redbullflugtag.co.uk and sketch out your prototype.The 40 chosen designs will of course display promising flying potential, but just as important are your plans for the pre-flight performance, which will take place on the 20ft high ramp 30 seconds before take off.Around 80,000 people are expected to shower the participants with love, affection and sympathy on the day, but there are prizes too. Top prize is a choice of flying lessons, a trip in an acrobatic plane or £5,000. And if crashing into a lake in a giant banjo – a design which somehow won the US Flugtag last year – isn’t extreme enough, further prizes include a tandem skydive or a loop-the-loop flight in a vintage aircraft. We’re currently working away on a modified version of Evel Knievel’s infamous Snake River Canyon rocket but, curiously, no-one's volunteered to be pilot yet...
