The trouble with today’s flatscreen TVs is they eat up the power, and they cost the Earth to make. Literally. Well, not all of them. And especially not the latest offering from Swidx. The Swedish-based TV manufacturer is going against the grain and releasing a line of tellies with casings built from wood. Yes, wood. But not just any old wood: it’s wood from a renewable source, meaning trees didn’t die purely to give your gogglebox a distinct design difference. The planet will live on.The dinky 19in screens may sport an unusual 1440x900 resolution, but that’s more than enough for a basic high-definition image. A 5ms response time, HDMI support and 24bit colour depth should see that their 1080i performance is a good one. They also have built-in digital TV tuners, making them far more useful than other TVs we could mention. Available in natural Ash, Sapele or Beech wood, the Tree-Vs (as they're hilariously named in the press release) will be on sale at Currys stores and online at Dixons.co.uk.EssentialsSwedx Wooden TVs Price: £350 On sale: NowContact: DixonsRelated stories:News: USB memory stick (wooden)News: Wooden clockNews: Slightly wooden phones
