Suunto, purveyor of "wrist-top computers", has just released its new range of heart rate monitors. The 2008 collection includes Suunto's first women-specific range.

The watches are designed to be worn day-to-day, as well as when you're sweating it out on a run (or just in the steam room at the gym). There are 11 watches in the range, starting at £50.

All of them come with a belt for monitoring your heart rate, and those higher up the range can be paired with a number of "peripheral observation devices", or PODs to you and me. Pick the GPS POD, foot POD or bike POD, depending upon your sport of choice. There's also a PC POD (read wireless USB dongle) for loading your workouts onto your compy for a thorough analysis, if you're really into the whole stats thing.

They'll all survive a dunking to 30m too. So if swimming, or knowing what time it is in the shower, is your thing then you're in luck.

Possibly the perfect addition to our Top 6 mini adventure gadgets
