Last week we gave you a hands-on look at Sling’s new video streamer, the SlingCatcher, and now it’s finally been given a price and launch date. It’s available to buy from today for £200 from Amazon and Micro Anvika.
That may seem like a lot for an enigmatic box that has a hard time explaining why it exists, but the SlingCatcher can do three very handy things: play BBC iPlayer and other web video on your TV, play video from external drives and, if you already have a Slingbox, stream films from one TV to another.
Round the back is a selection of pretty much every connection you could ask for – HDMI, S-Video, Component and three USBs – although the lack of Wi-Fi means you’ll have to connect it to your router via Ethernet (or a Wi-Fi dongle).
But to really witness its powers you need to see it in action, so we’ll be bringing you a full hands-on video next week.
