Gadget of the Day: Panasonic DMP-BD30

While we wait impatiently for Sony's next-gen BD-Live Blu-ray spinners, Panasonic's finally graced us Brits with the DMP-BD30 it launched in the State

The tasty-looking machine boasts 1080p in standard and filmic 24p flavours as well as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. It uses the same Panasonic P4HD tech (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD, as we're sure you know) that we saw on the DMP-BD10.

Although not graced with online hook-up like the next crop of Blu-ray players due later this year, it does get Bonus View for picture-in-picture viewing, letting movie fans watch the action and the director's commentary at the same time.

AVCHD camcorder owners will be pleased to spot the SD card slot for screening HD home movies direct from the 'corder's memory card. And it can also be used for flicking through your holiday snaps when the neighbours come round.

If that's not enticement enough, Panny's also throwing in copies of Ratatouille and Cars – an added bonus for the ten-year-old inside you.
