Rare is the Motorola product that has the brains to go with its killer looks, but the Z8 is one of the exceptions – delivering a user-friendly Symbian UIQ operating system in an equally flash package. It may not be as svelte as the RAZR2, but when viewed alongside its plain Jane smartphone rivals there’s no denying the handset’s new rave appeal, with its lime green detailing and banana-aping, face-hugging kick-slider. Inside there’s all the features you’d expect: MP3 player, a reasonable 2MP camera and super 3G internet access with lovely HSDPA download speeds. Which brings us nicely to the Z8’s second marquee feature – high quality 30fps movie playback on the 2.2in QVGA in a whopping 16 million glittering colours. Motorola claims it’s the world’s first hi-def mobile and you might agree after you’ve checked out Matt Damon’s ‘interesting’ features in the bundled copy of The Bourne Identity. Now that’s a face even the Z8 might be reluctant to hug.
