We've been seeing a lot of VoIP by mobile services of late, some working via GPRS or 3G, others using convoluted call back services. Now we think we've found the most conniving of all.Officially described as a GSM to Skype gateway, the Mobigater works by abusing the fact that networks like to give us a bundle of free minutes to use. The first step is to attach the device to a spare USB port on your Skype-connected PC then slip in a pay-as-you-go SIM card.Making a Skype call is as simple as dialling the PAYG number and inputting one of up to 99 pre-stored speed dials. Skype Out works just fine and, best of all, incoming Skype calls are also directed to your mobile. All sounds like a grand money saving wheeze to us, but, at well over a hundred notes to buy, you'll need to be putting down some serious Skype minutes to recoup the initial layout. The even pricier Pro version adds support for multiple users. 'Excellent', as Monty Burns would say.
