We were certainly enamoured with Tomy's i-Sobot when it was in the office, even though we were completely flummoxed by the remote control. MechRC is a robot on the same sort of scale as i-Sobot, but with a few more tricks up its robo-sleeve.
He too is loaded with servos (17 to be exact), giving him a massive range of movement. He too performs dance and fighting moves. The difference is that MechRC seems to have the advantage when it comes to ease of use.
There are over 100 pre-programmed moves and sounds, but you can make up your own. Its accompanying PC software lets you programme an endless variety of moves using a dead simple film strip animation process. Simply drag the virtual MechRC's body around on the screen to create a whole routine.
Once it's all programmed, you can use the IR remote to make MechRC do your bidding.
We got a close up look at one the other day at I Want One of Those – check out our MechRC hands-on video.
