Fresh in from the States and making their presence felt over here are M-Audio's new mini Studiophiles. Borrowing from M-Audio's pro studio cones they offer plenty of bang for your budget audiophile buck. The base model AV 20s are aimed at PC use but boast dedicated high and low-frequency drivers for full range sound and their own internal amplification. Eschewing cheapo plastic they opt for custom dense wood cabinets, which promise to deliver a faithful bass response.Upping the stakes, the AV 30s (pictured) are designed to give monitor quality audio from two 15W speakers in a compact travel friendly package. Inside the 3in composite woofers and 3/4in ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters make for some heartfelt lows and leaf-crunchingly crisp highs, while the magnetic shielding makes them multimedia-editing friendly. But top of the speaker pile are the similarly wood cased AV 40s. Blessed with reference monitor qualities, the travel cones boast 20W per-channel through 4in polypropylene-coated drivers and the same 3/4in drivers found on the 30s.All three are making their way into shops and online from this week.
