A meal in a pill, robot servants, videophones in every home – these were the inventions we dreamed about when we were just knee-high to a stack of Stuff magazines, not internet fridges and Bluetooth boomboxes. We're yet to shrink a meal down smaller than a kebab, while robot tech's progressing slower than our ZX Spectrums loading Arkanoid, but the last wishlist invention – we can do that.Take these two new models from BT. The futuristically named 1000 and 2000 are just the latest in their broadband-enabled line-up of video telephony treats. The two are identical apart from the 2000's Wi-Fi ability. Both get 3.5in TFT screens and 'hi-def' sound – BT's claimed enhanced clarity when talking to others also on BT Broadband Talk.Hook 'em up to your BT router and you'll be video phoning to your heart's content at a not-inconsiderable 10p a minute – just as long as you know someone else who's got one, otherwise the future fantasy starts to fall apart a bit.
