Flickr launches an official video player – and it's looking good

This week saw the launch of Flickr video. 'About bloody time' said the world – this is a project that has been mooted when even YouTube was a nipper.

And now that the net is choc-full of video-sharing sites, why should we care? Well, for one thing, Flickr Video isn't trying to compete with the big boys. What it does well is images – and the video addition is meant to complement image-sharing.

Uploads are limited to a conservative 90 seconds and 150MB in size, so it's sort of like a video Twitter for your pics. It retains the lovely interface that's made Flickr so successful, and tagging, uploading and sharing are all as simple as you'd expect.

Browsing by video category is similarly pleasing, especially when compared to the messy behemoth of YouTube.

It's only available for Flickr's subscription-paying Premium Users at the moment – if you are one of those, let me know what you think of the new service.
