Flex Lighting unveils light film for ebook readers

A 50 micron think layer is all it takes to get your night vision working with words

Flex Lighting could have created a new must-have for all ebook readers, letting you read in the dark without a cumbersome light attachment.

The, ahem, bright idea uses a 50 micron thin film and a single LED that lights your ebook reader up, so you can cower under the bedsheets reading your classic Stephen King horror novels. Or Goosebumps, if you've a less hardy constitution.

The big thing that separates this from other ebook lights is that it spreads a soft glow of light evenly across the display. Sounds great, right? Take a look for yourself in the video below and see what you think. Here’s hoping we see this announced at CES in January.
