Games outfit Ubisoft, responsible for several Stuff faves such as Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Rayman and Prince of Persia, has announced the first title for Nintendo Revolution: Red Steel.
The game’s set in present-day Japan and will combine the ancient martial art of the ketana with the technology of modern firearms with the goal of taking down wicked mobsters.
The only thing is that Red Steel – an exclusive to the Revolution - isn’t finished yet. Still, it’s tipped to have an action movie feel and is being touted enticingly as a ‘new video game experience’. Game boffins are still tinkering with the final touches in Paris, no doubt ensuring the Revolution’s eagerly awaited controller (above) is put to good use.
The controller’s attracted a whole lotta speculation – not least from us - but we’re still being left to guess at the particulars. Ubisoft is playing its cards close to its chest and will say only that its ‘been working closely with Nintendo to take full advantage of the innovative controller’.
What we have managed to glean is that the game will be a first person shooter so, like in Half-Life, you’ll be able to see your hand on the screen as you pummel mobsters to a grisly end.
You’ll also be able to point and shoot with a light gun, and Ubisoft is developing a way to use the controller as a sword, so by moving your hand around you can make like a Samurai warrior in your very own living room. Kill Bill indeed.
It’s all under wraps at the moment, and pictures of the game will be guarded for some time to come. But Red Steel will be showcasing at E3 next month in LA and our man Tom Dunmore will be there to give you our first imressions.
