Alchemy is the art of turning base metal into gold. Alqemi, the new name for Evesham’s range of pocket-pleasing goggle boxes, is a slightly dodgy misspelling plucked from the bumper book of product names.Still we’ll forgive this quintet of 32, 37 and 42-inch creations, if only because of their highly amenable price tags. Naturally we’ll be wanting to see what they’re actually like in the flesh but at under 500 gold coins for the Nicam stereo-equipped base model we’re just a quick flash of Robin Hood away from handing over our purses. The pricier SX models add virtual surround, picture in picture capabilities and digital tuners for Freeview frugality. All five also get the all-important PS3/Blu-Ray/HD DVD-ready HDMI slot. With only one on board, though, you may find you’re various HD-equipped boxes scrapping it out in the cabinet.Speaking of which, there’s a range of glass-shelved stands available with any of the sets for a small premium.
