No, it’s not a new clip-on fascia for your Samsung mobile. This is the Samsung X820, a 6.9mm thick owner that wins the ‘world’s most ridiculously slim phone’ title.
Aside from weighing a barely noticeable 66g and forcing Motorola’s SLVR to apply for the next series of Fat Club – the SLVR has a 11.5mm belly – it has a surprisingly good features’ CV.
There’s a 2MP camera, which should snap considerably better photos than the SLVR’s 0.3MP effort, and Bluetooth for pinging files over to your PC or laptop.
It’s certainly no Walkman phone, but there is an MP3 player and 80MB of internal memory to store a handful of your favourite tunes.
The other surprising news is that, despite being showcased at a telecoms’ event in Moscow, it’s a GSM affair and is due to make its debut in the UK next month.
We’re still waiting for official confirmation from Samsung on the exact price and release date, so check back for an update later.
In the meantime, have a gawk at the other pancake mobile to turn our heads this week, HTC’s Str Trk phone, which packs Windows Mobile 5.0 loveliness into 16mm thick handset. Motorola is rumoured to be ready to end the battle once and for all with a mobile that only exists in two dimensions.
