Escape the rat race next year with a flight into space

Forget the umbrella and ruined BBQs and escape into the glory of space with Virgin Galactic's hi-tech spacecraft

Think you've travelled the world and seen all it's had to offer? Broaden your horizon and traverse the atmosphere with Virgin Galactic's space tourism flights, the first of which has now been confirmed to take-off sometime next year.

Richard Branson himself will naturally be on board the first flight into the dark void, being among the first to experience flying two and a half miles above our planet's surface where he'll be able to intercept well-wishing tweets into space.

The space flight will take customers 60 miles above the Earth for two and a half hours in Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo craft, during which weightlessness will be felt for around five minutes.

If you fancy nabbing yourself a seat for a once-in-a-lifetime experience then you'll need US$200,000 and the willingness to take part in a week's worth of training before your flight.

As for us? We'll have to stick to bottle rockets and our imagination for the time being and hope that our lottery tickets finally pull through.
