Give us dual-cores and we want quad-cores. Give us quad cores and we want eight-cores. We need power – and now the next stage in our insatiable quest has been reached. As we confidently predicted last month, Apple has granted the overlord Mac Pro a double helping of Intel's 3Ghz 'Clovertown' quad-core chips to create a super-eight machine.Call it the Octocore, call it the Mactopus, call it what the hell you like, it's outrageously powerful. It's tentacles have only spread to the States so far but it's only a matter of time before it arrives here. Indications are that it'll come at a premium of around £500 on the price tag of the current double 3GHz 'Woodcrest' dual-core offering. Now excuse us, we must go and cackle in an evil manner...
