EE brings 4G service to 12 more towns and cities

New areas getting a speed boost include Blackburn, Halifax and Reigate

EE's rollout of its 4G mobile data service continues, with the network bringing '4GEE' service to a handful of new towns and cities.

The 4G network is today being switched on in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Beaconsfield, Burton upon Trent, Coalville, Chester-le-Street, Fleet, Gerrards Cross, Halifax, Hinckley, Houghton-le-Spring and Reigate.

4G for thee

The new additions expand EE's 4G service delivers 24-30Mb/s speeds to 117 towns and cities, covering 60 per cent of the UK population. Its target is to reach 98 per cent coverage by the end of 2014.

Of that 117, 20 cities including London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast receive 4GEE's 'double speed' service, bringing data speeds of up to 60Mb/s.

EE got a headstart in the 4G game but in August both O2 and Vodafone launched their own 4G services.
