A boy/girl, guitar and drums two-piece are always going to receive the typical White Stripes comparisons. But Brighton’s Blood Red Shoes tread a much grittier line in melodic-punk than the Detroit blues revivalists.
On You Bring Me Down, guitarist and vocalist Laura-Mary’s spiky but insanely catchy riff is propelled along valiantly by an incessant high-hat. It’s more infectious than an STI and less of a racket than their previous release, ADHD, but this punk-tinged heavy pop is no less excitingly essential.
