Those who dropped anything less than four figures on their home sound set-up can look away now. But perhaps just open your eyes a peak to check out these closed-back beauties from Denon.Declaring its return to the full-size headphone arena with an acoustically perfect bang, the hi-fi maker has crafted the AH-D5000 'Mahogany' with, you guessed it, polished mahogany capsule housings. As well as matching the decor in Stuff's listening lounge perfectly, the wood cladding adds a certain natural warmth and resonance to the music, so we're told. And there's been no skimping on the innards either. Large rigid diaphragms made from costlier Microfiber, rather than natural cellulose, promise more detail and less distortion, while a special Acoustic Optimizer balances out the pressure on either side of the diaphragm, giving it greater movement for those deep bass notes.Denon reckons the result is a reference class set of cans that'll please the most discerning of brandy-swilling listeners. We're slipping on our smoking jacket and tossing an extra log on the fire in readiness.Essentials Denon AH-D5000 'Mahogany' Price: £500 On sale: TBA Contact: DenonRelated stories: Denon turns Blu-ray up to 1.1 Denon X-Space: surround sound in a bar High-class Denons for high-class ear 'oles
