Fresh from venting our frustrations with the ‘video’ bit of the video iPod on our brand new podcast, news reaches us of a contender. As we speculated last Wednesday, Creative is ready to launch a video version of the Zen – the Vision:M.
We’re not expecting to get our hands on one till tomorrow at what we assume is the official launch but, since Creative’s cousins in Japan have already let the cat out of the bag, we may as well give you the low down.
Like the Apple version it has a 2.5-inch screen and a 30GB hard drive, though there’s no sign of a 60GB option with the Creative. It has similar controls to the Zen Touch and comes in three fetching shades of black, white and… green.
It looks a little chunkier than the sleek ‘Pod but does have the advantage of being able to play just about any movie format known to man, including our fave, DivX. We’re hoping that means it won’t be restricted to the odd podcast or music vid like Apple's wonder, and should make the prospect of watching last night’s telly a lot easier thanks to full compatibility with Windows Media Player 10.
We’ll let you know if our Apple grumbles have been answered after tomorrow’s launch event.
