The number one reason for partners rejecting pleas for a home cinema setup is the ugly, potentially lethal wires. While wireless solutions invariably cost a bomb, Creative has come to the rescue with this very affordable number.

The Gigaworks G550W 5.1 system has on-board Wi-Fi, which lets you position the rear speakers up to 30 feet away from the telly without laying trip wires across your lounge.

The front speakers and 130-watt subwoofer will need to be plugged into the system, but you can forgive them their tethers as they’ll be neatly stacked in the corner with your TV.

According to Creative, the 2.4GHz wireless tech has been designed to be immune from mobile phone interference, and the system’s total power output is an impressive 310 watts.

It’s even gone crazy and supplied what it calls a ‘wireless remote’, although this will cleverly let you control your Creative Zen player if you fancy plugging it in.

The only slight downside to the whole thing is that you’ll need to buy the separate Decoder DDTS-100 (available for £120) to get the surround working with your Xbox or DVD player.
